Applications of infusion pumps in medicine

An infusion pump is a smart medical instrument used in medicine to accurately control the infusion rate, dosage, and timing of medication. Its core applications include critical care, precise chemotherapy, and drug administration to specific populations. It ensures that medications are delivered evenly and safely to the patient.

Clinical Applications:

Intensive Care Unit (ICU): Continuously infuses vasoactive drugs (such as dopamine and norepinephrine) to stabilize blood pressure.

Oncology Chemotherapy: Strictly controls the infusion rate of potent chemotherapy drugs to avoid severe side effects from excessively rapid infusions or reduced efficacy from excessively slow infusions.

Anesthesia and Analgesia: Continuously infuses anesthetics and epidural analgesics during or after surgery.

Pediatrics and Neonatology: Infants and premature infants have extremely fine blood vessels and are highly sensitive to fluid intake; pumps are essential to prevent overdose.

Parenteral Nutrition Support: Delivers high-nutrient fluids at a uniform rate to the digestive tract or intravenous system.

Core Functional Advantages:

High-Precision Control: Eliminates the need for manual visual adjustment using traditional gravity drippers, achieving a precise flow rate of microliters per hour.

Multiple safety alarms: Equipped with air bubble detection, tubing blockage alarm, infusion completion alarm, and low battery alarm to prevent air embolism or medication interruption.

Reduces nursing burden: Reduces the workload of medical staff who frequently need to manually adjust and monitor the drip rate.
